Today In Music History: Bon Jovi Can’t Go Home
Today in 1989, MTV gave away Bon Jovi’s childhood home in Sayreville, New Jersey for a contest, way back when MTV still had something to do with music.
Jon Bon Jovi fanatic Judy Frappier gets to shack up with [lastfm]Bon Jovi[/lastfm]‘s childhood memories after winning his home in Jersey in a contest sponsored by MTV in 1989.
[lastfm]Bon Jovi[/lastfm]‘s parents, John and Carol Bongiovi, sold all their cherished memories of the home to MTV who sponsored the contest to promote Jovi’s concert in Milwaukee and his album New Jersey.
The contest blew out phone lines in Chicago and Newark as 800,000 callers attempted to reach the special 900 number. Frappier was one of eight finalists randomly selected, then eventually was chosen as the winner by the Network. She now lives happily ever after in the four bedroom, colonial home that young [lastfm]Bon Jovi [/lastfm]used to roam.
Jovi’s parents and brother moved to a larger home in the New Jersey area, hoping MTV doesn’t get their hands on their home again.
