graduate Simon and Garfunkel and the Original Cougar

This is a little back story relating to JACK’S Cougar Madness.

The Graduate was a hit 1967 movie starring Dustin Hoffman as recent college graduate Ben Braddock and Anne Bancroft as Mrs. Robinson.  Mrs. Robinson’s daughter Elaine, as played by Katharine Ross, was engaged to a frat boy. Hoffman’s character eventually takes her away from him and her nasty Robinson parents, but he was having an affair with Mrs. Robinson first.  Mrs. Robinson is one of the original known cougars.

But how do Simon and Garfunkel fit in?

[lastfm]Simon and Garfunkel [/lastfm]did the original of “Mrs. Robinson”, featured in The Graduate, and released in 1968 as a chart topping single. In 1969 the song won a Grammy Award for Record of the Year.

The [lastfm]Lemonheads[/lastfm] released a cover version of “Mrs. Robinson” in the early 1990’s to coincide with the video release of The Graduate. JACK FM currently plays the [lastfm]Lemonheads[/lastfm] version of the song.

Now, here we are in 2010, and [lastfm]Simon and Garfunkel[/lastfm] are doing an arena tour in North America (no Los Angeles dates) in April and May. And by that time, JACK FM will have picked the winning cougar in our JACK’S Cougar Madness, and she can drive off along the coast with her own Ben Braddock in her new Nissan 370Z. And live happily ever after, of course.
