Returning to the scene of the crime — where he was mugged and his television show was stolen — [lastfm]Conan O’Brien[/lastfm] spent the weekend gleefully performing onstage in Los Angeles. Who said revenge is a dish best served cold?

O’Brien stomped and spazzed around the Universal Amphitheater stage with exponentially more freedom, and apparently less shaving razors, than his ex-network talk show ever allowed him. And not unexpectedly, his rude “Tonight Show” ejection provided more than two hours worth of sweet, bitter material. But mostly it was ironic and delicious that his Legally Prohibited From Being Funny On Television show was just down the road from his former NBC digs.

O’Brien’s live variety-show-cum-rock-concert-cum-therapy-session (so-named because he’s contractually barred from returning to TV until September 1) began in Eugene, Oregon on April 12. So far, the shows have been rich with O’Brien’s rock-star pals: [lastfm]Eddie Vedder[/lastfm], [lastfm]Mike McCready[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Dave Matthews[/lastfm] showed up to jam at his Seattle gigs and [lastfm]Chris Isaak[/lastfm] was his handsome dueting partner in San Francisco.

On Saturday in LA, wannabe rock star [lastfm]Jim Carrey[/lastfm] adorned in a cape and Spandex, belted out [lastfm]Five for Fighting[/lastfm]’s “Superman” with Coco. Some of the high-profile celebs cruising the grounds included Jack McBrayer, Jon Hamm, Jonah Hill, Joss Whedon, Megan Mullally, and [lastfm]Aziz Ansari[/lastfm] who all joined O’Brien onstage.

Check out a fan-cam video of the Conan/Jim Carrey “Superman” duet:

O’Brien’s new TV show will air on TBS beginning in October. Free of network constraints, expect it to be dirty, loud, and delightfully obnoxious.
