In his first release in 17 years, Steve Miller is going back to his roots on the new blues cover album BINGO! Read what he had to say about the album (in stores now) that took some convincing to even record.  trans Steve Miller Talks About New Blues Cover Album BINGO!

Steve Miller grew up listening to the blues hits of Junior Parker and Bobby ‘Blue’ Bland and takes inspiration from those deep blues classics on his first release in 17 years.  His new album BINGO! includes covers from [lastfm]Jimmy Reed[/lastfm], [lastfm]T-Bone Walker[/lastfm], [lastfm]BB King[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Jimmie Vaughan[/lastfm] and hit stores on June 22.

He commented in an interview with Rolling Stone, “Every one of these songs was a monster hit in the south in those days of race records and segregated music. This album is like the greatest hits list that comes out of that period.”

This album may not even happened if it wasn’t for the encouragement from iconic Exile on Main Street and Led Zeppelin IV producer Andy Johns.  After seeing Miller perform a three-night set of all blues covers with [lastfm]Bonnie Raitt[/lastfm], [lastfm]Joe Satriani [/lastfm]and [lastfm]Robben Ford[/lastfm], Johns pushed Miller to record a full blues album.

The album is loaded with blues hits Miller grew up playing as a kid.  He’ll be on the road this summer and plans to play many of the tracks from BINGO!, saying, “They’ll be a large acoustic section in the middle and we’re going to be doing a bunch of our greatest hits acoustically. There’s about 14 songs my audience really wants to hear, like ‘Fly Like an Eagle’ and ‘Take the Money and Run.’ That gives us nine songs where we can anything we want.”
