To celebrate what would be his 70th birthday, Yoko Ono and EMI teamed up to reissue eight of [lastfm]John Lennon[/lastfm]’s solo albums plus release a greatest hits and four-disc anthology called Gimme Some Truth. The bonus material on the reissued Lennon catalog is one hardcore [lastfm]Beatles[/lastfm] and Lennon fans won’t want to pass up.

[lastfm]John Lennon[/lastfm]’s music catalog is getting a huge makeover for a commemorative reissue for his 70th birthday. Eight of his solo albums — John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band, Imagine, Some Time In New York City, Mind Games, Walls and Bridges, Rock ‘n’ Roll, Double Fantasy Stripped Down/Double Fantasy and Milk and Honeywill receive a digitally remastered facelift and will also be available for download on all major digital retailers.

In addition to the massive catalog reissue and greatest hits compilation, an 11-disc box set called John Lennon Signature Box, will include all the solo releases plus a bonus disc of rare, unreleased material. The collection also includes collectible limited edition art print and a hardbound book with rare photos, poetry, artwork and new liner notes.

The updated releases will hit stores five days before Lennon’s birthday on October 5th. Yoko Ono is also planning events to coincide with his birthday, more details will be announced on Lennon’s website.
