Those rock ‘n roll gods of the deep south, [lastfm]Kings of Leon[/lastfm], brought their own Nashville brand of firewater to Hyde Park, London and got the crowd wasted with wonderment. The word “epic” was repeated over and over again. Not just for their near perfect cover of a [lastfm]Pixies [/lastfm]song but for the début of four songs off their upcoming album.
If you are like us and just said to yourself, “Liars. No one can perfectly cover [lastfm]The Pixies[/lastfm]”, click on more so we can prove you wrong (or right, whatever).
We give you permission to doubt our authority on awesome (although why would you?) , but you cannot deny that the [lastfm]Kings of Leon[/lastfm] have enough guitar chops to blow the clothes off a hot chicks body (see: Victoria’s Secret Fashion show performance). Drummer Nathan Followill wants us to understand that this is not going to change with the new album:
Any time you’re coming into a tour after a new record, especially one that’s not even out yet, it’s pretty tough to not play the whole thing. And I’ll be damned if we didn’t go in there and make a fun record. It’s got songs that are beachy. It’s got songs that are a little more of our (2003 debut album) ‘Youth and Young Manhood’ days — pretty much all across the board. We’re super excited. Everything, we feel, fits perfectly for this project. It’ll be interesting to see how well-received it is.
The band played four new tracks off the aforementioned album: “Immortals,” “Mary,” “Radioactive” and “Southbound.”
And they blew the minds of British youngins’ with a cover of [lastfm]The Pixies[/lastfm], “Where is My Mind?” Despite the bad video quality, the cover sounds pretty freakin’ fantastic. And we’d love to be an intoxicated teenager hearing a [lastfm]Pixies[/lastfm] song for the first time…again. Oh, memories.
- What do you think? Did the [lastfm]Kings of Leon[/lastfm] do [lastfm]The Pixies [/lastfm]justice with their cover of “Where is My Mind?”
