Listen: Radiohead Drummer Has More Talent Than Just Rhythm
The sad fact about drummers in bands is that they usually get overlooked and are never taken very seriously (insert dumb drummer joke here). Minus a few exceptions who successfully fronted their own band — [lastfm]Dave Grohl[/lastfm], [lastfm]Josh Freese[/lastfm], [lastfm]Phil Collins[/lastfm] — drummers are just seen as drooling meatheads with little musicality to contribute to the band.
Well, [lastfm]Radiohead [/lastfm] drummer, Philip Selway, has gone rogue and is the third member of the band to fly solo with a side project. Releasing his debut solo album Familial this August, Selway sings and rocks the acoustic guitar with the help of some famous friends. Get the first listen of his soft-rocking new track “By Some Miracle.”
Philip Selway’s album Familial will hit stores on August 30, but he gives a little preview of his solo effort with the first single “By Some Miracle.” [lastfm]Wilco[/lastfm] drummer Glenn Kotche, multi-instrumentalist Pat Sansone, ex-[lastfm]Soul Coughing[/lastfm] bassist Sebastian Steinberg, and singer-songwriter Lisa Germano all contribute to the album.
For your listening pleasure, check out the chillaxed tune “By Some Miracle” and tell us, does drummer Philip Selway have the chops to go solo, or should he stay behind the kit?
In related news, [lastfm]Radiohead[/lastfm] is finishing up their new album, with the hopes of being released within the year.
