Simon Le Bon Meets “Barbarella’s” Jane Fonda
Her film was the inspiration behind his band’s name – not to mention the inspiration behind a lot of the daydreams of puberty-stricken boys from the late 1960s forward. So what did [lastfm]Duran Duran[/lastfm] frontman [lastfm]Simon Le Bon[/lastfm] and Barbarella star Jane Fonda talk about when they met? Find out after the jump!
Le Bon finally met the Barbarella star at the chateau of fashion designer Valentino Garavani in France. Le Bon and his wife were guests, as was Fonda.
“John [Taylor, [lastfm]Duran Duran[/lastfm]‘s bassist] came up to me … and said, ‘You must come and meet Jane Fonda!’ which I had never done,” Le Bon wrote on his blog. “So I went over to her and asked, ‘What do you think about us being Duran Duran?'”
“It was difficult for awhile, but after a few marriages, and one to someone with a sense of humor, I finally came around to it!” she replied, according to Le Bon.
[lastfm]Duran Duran[/lastfm] was named after the character Durand Durand in Barbarella, played by Milo O’Shea. The band is finishing up work on its new album, which is being produced by [lastfm]Mark Ronson[/lastfm].
