The [lastfm]Soundgarden[/lastfm] reunion of 2010 thus far has mostly benefited fans in Seattle and Chicago, the two locales where the band has played live shows. But later this year, fans around the globe will be able to hear unreleased and rare tracks from [lastfm]Chris Cornell[/lastfm] and company!
On the heels of reunion shows in Chicago at the Vic and at Lollapalooza, [lastfm]Soundgarden[/lastfm] will release a best of collection in October, entitled Telephantasm. The CD will be packaged with copies of Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, which hits streets September 28th, then be released in music stores on October 5th.
The disc will be a best-of compilation with tracks from each of [lastfm]Soundgarden[/lastfm]‘s previous releases, but it will also an older, unreleased track called “Black Rain.”It will be the first “new” [lastfm]Soundgarden[/lastfm] track heard since November of 1997.
According to guitarist [lastfm]Kim Thayil[/lastfm], “Black Rain” is only the tip of the iceberg in terms of unreleased songs.
“There’s enough stuff out there to fill up three or four albums,” he said. “There’s enough original stuff that’s been released but hasn’t been compiled — B sides — to make an album. There’s enough covers to make an album. It’s just getting the business and creative machine on the same page.”
Telephantasm will also be available on vinyl. There’s no word on an eight-track version, though.
