We all know Pee-Wee Herman loves his bike more than anything else in the world and what better way to showcase his childlike enthusiasm than in the world’s largest bike rally to lead the way for the roughest, gruffest bikers who also share his deep affinity for their hogs.
In the world’s largest motorcycle rally, you would expect to see a big, burly man donned in leather from head to toe with a cigarette in one hand and a cold beer in the other leading the pilgrimage of bikes, but the crowd was greeted with a friendly face in a ill-fitting plaid suit and bow tie pedaling at the forefront of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota.
Paul Reubens, the mastermind behind the child-spirited adult of Pee-Wee Herman, appeared in full character for the massive rally of bike enthusiasts before heading to the Legendary Buffalo Chip campground to perform on the bill with [lastfm]Bob Dylan[/lastfm], [lastfm]ZZ Top[/lastfm], [lastfm]Ozzy Osbourne[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Kid Rock[/lastfm].
Fans from all over the country flocked just to see his rosy cheeks and hear that signature “heh-HEH” laugh as he put on his best “mean face” while riding his famous red bike through the streets of Sturgis. His appearance at the world’s largest bike-fest precedes just before taking off for a 48-performance Broadway-adapted Pee-Wee Herman Show in October.
On Monday, Reubens/Herman was slated to officiate the world’s largest “Tequila Dance” mimicking his famous dance scene in Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure, but was nixed after Buffalo Chip owner Bob Woodruff said it would be impossible to tally up the dancers. Well, it is with that kind of attitude. Too bad though, it would be quite the spectacle to see thousands of bikers doing the “Pee-Wee Dance” and shouting “Tequila!” to celebrate National Tequila Day.
