We told you in late July about the “Never Ending Tour” with [lastfm]Bob Dylan[/lastfm] and [lastfm]John Mellencamp[/lastfm]. Earlier this week, the duo got the show on the road, starting with a gig in Lincoln, Neb. and giving fans a sneak-peek at what they can expect as John and Bob roll across the country.
Mellencamp’s set was heavy both with classics and with tracks from his new album No Better Than This, produced by rock/country god [lastfm]T-Bone Burnett[/lastfm]. “Pink Houses” kicked off the set, and “Cherry Bomb” got a drastic, quasi-a capella makeover. Of course, “Small Town” represented as well, with a great ad-lib right around 1:30 in:
Dylan does not have a true “new album” to plug (though the next installment of the “Bootleg Series” drops in October). But there were some old songs in new formats, including a softer and more reflective “Just Like a Woman” and Dylan covering [lastfm]Phish[/lastfm] covering “Cold Irons Bound.”
Here’s a shaky, but good-sounding fan-captured video of “Just Like a Woman.”
The duo comes to southern California on August 19th, playing in Ontario.
What favs would you have to see at a Dylan concert?
