[lastfm]Sheryl Crow [/lastfm] survived a bout with breast cancer in 2006 and has since become a large advocate for spreading awareness and raising money for cancer research. A breast cancer center opened in her name on Tuesday that promises to be equipped with the latest technology for detecting the disease
“Detecting breast cancer early is a woman’s best chance at survival and digital full-field mammography is the gold standard of early detection,”said Crow. The 48-year-old singer was diagnosed during a routine mammogram in 2006.
The center named Sheryl Crow Imaging Center, will focus on screening women for breast cancer and according to its website “[it] features the latest advancements in digital screening and diagnostic imaging technologies available.”
“Joining forces with the Pink Lotus Breast Center has provided me with a wonderful platform to create awareness and encourage the millions of American women over 40 to get their annual mammogram,” Crow added.
The Pink Lotus Breast Center, was founded by Crow’s surgeon, Dr. Kristi Funk who operated on the singer during her battle with cancer. The SCIC an extension of Dr. Funk’s center and is being dubbed as “a state of the art facility for the detection of breast cancer”.
