Gimme, gimme free new music!! That’s the best kind there is, and when it’s released by a prestigious member from the ‘electroneering’ masterminds of [lastfm]Radiohead[/lastfm], you can count on it being pretty spectacular…and creepy. Which member has slipped through the “treefingers” of the gloomy Brit rockers to fly solo on a brand new release? I’ll give you a hint, it’s not Thom Yorke…not even Johnny Greenwood or Ed O’Brien…wait so who’s left?
Radiohead’s drummer Philip Selway has broken free from behind his kit tucked all the way in the back of the stage to take the spotlight as leading man and guitarist for his solo act and upcoming release of his debut album Familial on August 30th.
But before you dish out the moolah on his new album, make sure it’s the kinda thing you’re in to with a free download of his first single “By Some Miracle.” It has a real [lastfm]Radiohead[/lastfm] vibe to it, except without all the electronic beats, or high-pitched wails from Yorke…and no drums and only an acoustic guitar with some ghostly vocals supplied by Selway and a mystery girl…so really it doesn’t sound a bit like Radiohead, but it’s still good!! Take it from Selway himself:
“‘By Some Miracle’ is always the first track that I play to people who are new to my songs (which is most everyone actually). I’m aware that no one knows what to expect from me outside Radiohead, and so I think this song sets the tone for what is to come on the record.” — Philip Selway
