In case you haven’t heard, Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark will be the newest installment in the Spiderman franchise. Folks may be surprised to find out that Turn Off the Dark is not another movie, nor TV show, nor web-series (ha!). This new segment in the career of our favorite web-slinger can only be seen one place- Broadway.
The Spiderman musical has seen its share of setbacks. With budget restraints, casting issues, and delay after delay after delay, fans were speculating whether or not Peter Parker would ever share the spotlight with Mary Jane. Thanks to many collaborating effects between Julie Taymor and [lastfm]U2 [/lastfm]members Bono and The Edge, solace was found in the form of rock-star Carney. Carney has been playing in his own band for years and takes the U2 power-ballad to soaring new heights.
Why even have U2 write the music? Well, Bono has been a comic fan for years. Remember when he contributed to the 1995 Batman Forever movie? Superhero tendencies is in his blood! He says about his attraction to the Spiderman project, “[it is the] quintessential New York story, and we’re all kind of wanna-be New Yorkers. It’s not so serious, but this post-9/11 idea of everyone being capable of being a hero caught our imaginations.”
Look for Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark to hit Broadway mid-December. In the meantime, check out the exclusive first performance of its title track, “Boy Falls From the Sky”.
