R.E.M. Finishes New Album, Fans High-Five Each Other
A band as influential and imaginative as [lastfm]R.E.M.[/lastfm] has kept pretty quiet for the past couple of years. In fact, if it wasn’t for Michael Stipes moonlighting as [lastfm]Moby[/lastfm], we would have the band to be missing. Turns out that R.E.M. has spent the past year chugging along on their keyboards and guitars, writing new music and getting their fifteenth album ready for release.
As of yet, the album remains untitled. This album, similar to their last 2008 release, will be produced by Jacknife Lee. Jacknife -

- Lee notes that the album can be expected to be released in the Spring of 2011. Recording sessions were held in studios all across the U.S., such as the Music Shed in New Orleans and at Belin’s Hansa Studios, where [lastfm]U2[/lastfm]’s “Achtung Baby” and [lastfm]David Bowie[/lastfm]‘s “Heroes” was recorded. Additional tracks were cut in Nashville. Elvis was not in the building.
