The Hangover was one of the funniest and most successful comedies of 2009. The film brought in over $400 million world-wide and also won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy). It helped introduce us to Zach Galifahoweveryoupronounceit’s absurdist comedy stylings. It also proved that what happens in Vegas does not always stay in Vegas.
Still, does all this positive consequence constitute a sequel? After all, we all were duped into paying admittance to Caddyshack II (oy). Could Mel Gibson be the force that breaks the comedy sequel curse?
One of the most memorable parts of The Hangover came with the strangely mesmerizing cameo of crazy legend Mike Tyson. Surprisingly, he did not disappoint on camera and was even able to pull off some hint of coherency.
Thanks to The Hangover, Tyson was able to flip his image and regain an assortment of positive public image. You know, the kind of positive image we wish we had here at JACK.
But is The Hangover franchise powerful enough to bring back Mel Gisbon’s career from the grave? We’re… skeptical.
It’s unclear whether or not Gibson will play a caricature of himself or a true-to-life madman. Here’s what we heard from an inside source:
“It’s a done deal. Mel will make a cameo as a tattoo artist. Filming is taking place on the Warner Bros. lot, where a Bangkok set has been built, and Mel is expected to film his role in two weeks. Then the production moves to Thailand at the end of October.”
Risky to say the least, but still we’ll be tuned in for sure.
The Hangover 2 is set for release on May 26, 2011.
