Now that Steven Tyler will be American Idol’s newest
hack judge, rumors about future have been dismal, to say the least. Will the band ever go on another tour (after all, there are many more stages Tyler has yet to fall off of)? Will there ever be a new Aerosmith album?
Guitarist Brad Whitford promises that 2011 will be a most exciting year for Aerosmith, regardless of the reality-show tie-ins.
“Honkin’ On Bobo” marked Aerosmith’s latest release, dating back to 2004. Now that the band’s frontman is to spend half his time in Los Angeles filming American Idol, fellow band members were afraid the Aerosmith era had come to an abrupt halt.
But the televised talent may not be as bad as once imagined. In fact, the band mates now see it as an opportunity to issue in an untapped fan base.
Whitford believes the American Idol association “could be a very good thing for the band.” He hopes the show will include segments where the band can perform, almost as an initiation for Tyler.
With all the buzz surrounded Aerosmith and Tyler, Whitford comments that the band is planning a world tour for 2011.
