In one of the most iconic moments of rock history, legendary virtuoso [lastfm]Jimi Hendrix[/lastfm] broke all the rules of conservative rock-and-roll.
Touring with the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Jimi was always looking for ways to perfect his onstage persona. On March 31, 1967, when, booked to appear as one of the opening acts on the Walker Brothers farewell tour, he set his guitar on fire at the end of his first performance, as a publicity stunt.
And he didn’t even remember doing it.
Now, that 1965 Fender Stratocaster is set to be auctioned this summer. If we had the money, you’d better believe we’d be down there.
The guitar is expected to raise about £250,000 at auction, which is equivalent to $399,731.06. That’s about how much we spend a year on bacon!!
The guitar has been kept in storage for over 40 years… wonder who’s gonna keep it in their garage next?
