1982 was a fantastic year for the avid movie fan. Just think – 28 years ago today, you could run out to the nearest VilliageVideo and rent a VHS copy of E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial for your hot date. Or maybe your date prefers to cuddle up with her leg-warmers while the two of you laugh over the hilarious Sean Penn in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Or maybe you and your friends gathered in your neighbor’s basement to watch a sneaked copy of the movie everyone was talking about – Porky’s.
Then there is the one movie that seems to elude space and time. TRON was a movie that not only captivated the sci-fi nerds, but it developed an acute cult following due to the grand and intimidating virtual world Disney had created.
Now, nearly 30 years later, TRON has come back to prove that the marriage of curious science fiction and explosive special effects can still draw huge crowds. It seems like there isn’t too much that can go wrong with this movie… except for one word – sequel.
Fear not. As reviews begin to pour in, it seems that delightful Disney done did it right. The sequel is such a terrifying concept for actors and audience alike, but TRON is able to pull off the feat without any sacrifice of character or story.
