Not even our favorite Saturday morning cartoons are safe. Why can’t Hollywood come up with any original ideas?

After a little research, we have discovered our precious childhood cartoons can expect a retooled, reanimated, and re-imagined reconstruction. Will these modern ‘toons outshine their classic counterparts, or will we be forced to watch that embarrassing dribble?

Hollywood is out to wage war on everything we grew up holding near and dear to our hearts. Looney Tunes, Winnie The Pooh, Thundercats and TMNT are all receiving facelifts. Some for better, some for worse. Check out what we can expect to hit our television over the new few years.

That’s right. Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd, and the whole gang are set to reappear in The Cartoon Network’s “The Looney Tunes Show“. A whole new generation of boob-tube voyeurs can enjoy a twist on the classic cartoon icons; Daffy and Bugs are roommates in the suburbs while Yosemite Sam, Tweety Bird, Sylvester, Marvin the Martian and Porky Pig are their neighbors.

Hey, they’re even giving Wily E. Coyote and The Roadrunner makeovers as 3-D computer animated ‘toons.

According to Peter Roth, President of Warner Brothers Television, fans will enjoy the original, “DNA of the wise cracking characters… that made them stars in the 1940s. Bugs, Daffy, Porky and crew for the first time in years will look and behave in a manner that is familiar to adults who grew up on the cartoons. No babies. No punked-out space adventurers.”

Winnie-The-Pooh

As a child, the only thing better than reading Winnie-The-Pooh was discovering its animated counter-part on our TV. A sick day from elementary school meant hours gallivanting through the Hundred Acre Wood. It was as if we had an entourage of quirky rascals (way before Vince.)

While Pooh and crew have been out of the spotlight for a while, it’s nice to hear that the show is returning to its roots – hand-drawn animation, adventures taken from Milne‘s novels and old-fashioned archetypes.

Director Don Hall comments, “When we came on to the project there was a very strong mandate to return Pooh to its roots. Today with our technologies and our fast pace things are very chaotic. The Hundred Acre Wood is the perfect antidote to that. It is the perfect time to go back to the peacefulness of the world of Ashdown Forest and let it stand as a counterpoint to everything that we have bombarding us in our lives.”

ThunderCats

AHHHH YEAHHHH. ThunderCats. Best. 80’s. Cartoon. EVER.

Now we have WBA and Studio4C to thank, for not only are they bringing the show back to life, they have updated the animation to an epic degree. With strong animators boasting their advanced technique, Lion-O, Mumm-Ra, Panthro, Cheetara and the rest of the gang are enlivened, springing off the screen with “realistic cat-like characteristics inconceivable in previous incarnations.”

This time around, the story focuses on the grand origin of Prince Lion-O’s ascension to the throne, while demon-priest Mumm-Ra recruits those who yearn to thwart the ThunderCat’s destiny at any cost. An epic battle of Good VS. Evil as each side quests for the fabled Stones of Power… who will win??

We’re assuming the ThunderCats… after all, the show is named after them.

Oh, Nickelodeon, why would you even try to bring glory back to our favorite turtles? The show was brilliant and the movies are classics – why why why do you think you can improve something so near perfection?

The cable network has greenlit 26 half-hour episodes for late 2012. The triumphant return of Michelangelo, Donatello, Raphael, Leonardo, Shredder, and Splinter promises to be “funnier and ninja-ier,” than the original 1990’s franchise.

We’re not so sure about this one… after all, our classic turtles produced their own episodes AND their own Drug-Free PSAs! What can these jokers possibly have?

The Governator

OK, so it looks like Hollywood can crank out ONE original idea…

Arnold Schwarzenegger makes his debut in Stan Lee’s latest comic book superhero… THE GOVERNATOR. Yeah, we thought it was a joke too. The announcement aired on April Fool’s Day, but it seems that this show is a go.

Stan Lee himself says, “The Governator is going to be a great superhero, but he’ll also be Arnold Schwarzenegger. We’re using all the personal elements of Arnold’s life. We’re using his wife [Maria Shriver]. We’re using his kids. We’re using the fact that he used to be governor. Only after he leaves the governor’s office, Arnold decides to become a crime fighter and builds a secret high-tech crime-fighting center under his house in Brentwood.”

We’ll just see about that…
