The 80’s Go All Industrial

View Comments

As you probably know, it’s a Flashback to the 80’s Memorial Day weekend here on Jack FM. But Jack FM isn’t alone in our love for music from the mostly androgynous decade. Das Bunker, LA’s premiere industrial discothèque, is coming out with their own CD full of industrial covers of classic 80’s songs. (If you’re not familiar with industrial music, just think of bands that kinda sound like Ministry, Nine Inch Nails, or the Backstreet Boys on acid).

The tracklist for The Choice of a New Generation is as follows, courtesy of IndustrialShirts.com:

1. Straftanz – Looking for Freedom
2. God Module – Round and Round
3. Northborne – No Sleep till Brooklyn
4. HexRx – Living on Video
5. FGFC820 – We Don’t Need No World War III
6. Gentleman Junkie – When I Hear Music
7. Modcom feat. Leæther Strip – Native love
8. Sars feat. Amanda Jones – Two of Hearts
9. Combichrist – Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)
10. Assemblage 23 – Don’t Change
11. Continues – Perfume Garden
12. System Syn – A New England
13. SD6 – As The End Draws Near
14. iVardensphere – The Dogs of War

Seriously? Kicking off the CD with a David Hasselhoff classic? That’s already epic.

It also includes covers of Ratt, the Beastie Boys, Debbie Deb, C+C Music Factory, Pink Floyd, and Trans-X’s “Living on Video,” one of the most asked about songs on Jack FM. I think Sars was supposed to be big a few years ago, but never quite broke through, so it’s good to see them covering a Stacey Q classic (along with Das Bunker DJ Amanda Jones) in “Two of Hearts.”

If you’re wondering what 80’s songs sound like when they’ve been thrashed up industrial style, you can listen to a sample here-

Yeah, I’m in. If you’re interested in the CD, you can check it out here
