Michelle Bachmann was caught using [lastfm link_type="similar_artist_radio"]Tom Petty[/lastfm]‘s “American Girl” to open up her rallies… and Tom doesn’t seem to like that very much.
There’s a [lastfm link_type="similar_artist_radio"]Bachman Turner Overdrive[/lastfm] joke there somewhere…
Could it be that she was just takin’ care of business, everyday?
Coincidentally, she’s not the first GOP candidate Petty has condemned for using his songs without permission. In addition to stopping Bachmann, Petty told George W. Bush to stop using “I Won’t Back Down” during his 2000 rallies.
Wixen Music Publishing president Randall Wixen wrote to the Bush campaign, stating:
“It has recently come to our attention that your presidential campaign has been using the above-referenced song in connection with your presidential bid. Please be advised that this use has not been approved . . . Any use made by you or your campaign creates, either intentionally or unintentionally, the impression that you and your campaign have been endorsed by Tom Petty, which is not true.”
