Steve Carell has left Scranton and Dunder Mifflin behind.
Who was going to replace him though? Yeah, we’ve been kinda curious about that. Especially after the cavalcade of celebrities (James Spader, Jim Carrey, Will Arnett, Ricky Gervais, Ray Ramano, etc.) that interviewed for the branch manager position in the season finale.
It looks like it finally happened; today NBC announced Carrell’s replacement. In honor of that, we’ve got a few of our favorite moments from The Office.
James Spader (Crash, Secretary, Stargate) will be not only be replacing Michael Scott as branch manager, but will also replace Kathy Bates character as Sabre’s CEO.
“James will reprise his role as Robert California, this uber-salesman that has a power to convince and manipulate, like a high-class weirdo Jedi warrior,” says EP Paul Lieberstein (better known as Toby).
“He’ll have been hired over the summer as the new manager, but within hours, got himself promoted. Within days, he took over the company. James has an energy that is completely his own, and The Office has no tools for dealing with this guy. We’re thrilled he’s joining our cast.”
The Office returns September 22nd for it’s 8th season.
It looks like the writers already have some ideas planned for this coming season, let’s hope it’s as memorable as the last seven. In the meantime, let’s remember Michael Scott’s prouder moments.
