Marcy Playground is an American alternative rock band consisting of three members: John Wozniak (lead vocals, guitar), Dylan Keefe (bass), and Shlomi Lavie (drums). The band is best known for their 1997 hit “Sex and Candy”.
After Gonzalo Martinez’s departure from the band, family-friend Shlomi Lavie stepped in to fill the void as drummer for the band’s 2009 tour, promoting two new albums. After a successful 4-Day Carnival Cruise show(s) in the Bahamas alongside Post-grunge band Sponge, it was announced that the band would kick off an official tour for the Spring of 2009, playing in venues along the California coastline, including the notorious Key Club, as well as various cities in Canada and North Carolina.

The past few years have marked a period of significant creative release for stunningly original modern rock band,
Marcy Playground. With 2009’s critically-acclaimed Leaving Wonderland…in a fit of rage, fans were invited to
experience an emotional rollercoaster on what frontman John Wozniak calls the “most personal record “he’s
ever made.” Born from both a turbulent and intense time in Wozniak’s life, each song digs deep for the band and
Now veterans of the music business for over 10 years, Marcy Playground got its start in 1997 when they shot
onto the scene with irresistible Billboard chart-topper “Sex and Candy,” a song that maintained its position as
number one for fifteen consecutive weeks and a self-titled debut album that sold 1.7 million copies. Though commercially
ambiguous in comparison, posterior albums Shapeshifter (1999) and Marcy Playground 3 (MP3) (2004)
demonstrated tremendous periods of creative growth for the group and are recognized as “cult classics” among
the band’s dedicated fans.
With songs existing outside of the current musical fashion, Marcy Playground has established a timeless feel
that has gained notice by the big screen. Today you can find their material featured on soundtracks such as Cruel
Intentions, Antitrust, Simply Irresistible, Hurricane Streets, as well as many films by writer/director Kevin Smith
(Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back, Zack and Miri Make a Porno).
2011 finds Marcy Playground looking forward to their b-sides and rarities album scheduled for release later this
year. Yet that’s not all on their plate: Marcy Playground is currently in the process of writing new material to provide
their fans with signature sounds.
Meanwhile, catch members Wozniak, bassist Dylan Keefe and new drummer Shlomi Lavie on their international
tour to experience the Playground live at a venue nearest you.
