Runyon Canyon Park
- Location: 2000 N. Fuller Ave Los Angeles, CA 90046
Also known as the Heart of Hollywood Hike, Runyon Canyon Trail is a 3 mile round trip loop and is one of the most beautiful trails in the Los Angeles area. This is a dog friendly trail, so be sure to bring your pooch so he can socialize with the other dogs enjoying the trail.
The summit is called Clouds Rest, and the view is gorgeous. This is one of the more popular trails in LA, so don’t expect a lot of wilderness solitude, though the abundance of people makes for excellent people watching.
Even better trails on the next pages. Even if you’re not interested in taking your pants for a walk today, these trails aren’t going anywhere so be sure to take advantage of them at some point!
Topanga State Park
- 20829 Entrada Rd Topanga Canyon, CA 90290
Topanga State Park is home to a plethora of hiking trails, and many of the trails can be accessed from Trippet Ranch.
Some of the trails are a bit more unforgiving than others, some seem to be entirely uphill, but trust us, the views are worth it. Also, because there are so many trails, this hike can be more of a wilderness adventure than Runyon.
Topanga State Park also hosts Family Campfires almost nightly, so those of you looking for a nice family activity should investigate.
Want a simple, much less crowded version of Runyon? Then check out the trail on the next page.
Fryman Canyon Trail
- 3431 Fryman Road, Studio City, CA 91604
Fryman Canyon is something of a hidden gem. It is a good alternative to Runyon Canyon Trail because it is quite a bit less crowded and the trail is not the most difficult.
The trail is a short 3 mile loop, and is pet friendly.
Wanna finish your hike with a breathtaking waterfall? Then you’re going to want to hike the trail on the next page.
Escondido Canyon Park
- 27200 Winding Way, Malibu CA
The Escondido Canyon Park is home to a lovely 4.2 mile round trip trail that peaks when you reach the waterfall at the end of the trek.
From the start of the trail it’s about a one mile hike to the waterfall. The climb is gradual enough for most and drifts in and out of tree cover.
