Ghaddafi Sitcom

Ahh, that magical time known only as the 80’s.

While some of us like to spend our time omitting selections of the 1980’s from our collective conscience, the decade that introduced parachute pants to a nation is rarely credited with ever getting it right.

But for two brief months in 1987, FOX sitcom Second Chance did more than get it right – it predicted the freaking future.

In this short-lived and unloved wacky second-chance television series, Charles Russell (played by Kiel Martin) is a downtrodden recently deceased man who is tasked with the heavy load of steering the younger version of himself (played by Matthew Perry) on a more righteous path so he may be admitted to Heaven.

Yup. Sounds reasonable.

In this particular episode, St. Peter gets two visitors at his Pearly Gates before our main character joins in on the action. The first visitor to St. Peter’s office is a beauty pageant queen, tripped off the runway by a jealous runner-up. Poor lady. The other recently deceased is none other than Muammar Gadaffi, gunned down in a bloody shoot-off.

Did we mention the scene was set in 2011?

Yup. In a sitcom that was bound for failure in almost every aspect, Perry and co. still found a way to predict Gaddafi’s removal from power in the exact year it happened.

(Fast-forward to 2:20 for Gaddafi)

Man. Really makes us wonder just how much the Friends writing staff really lacked in the fortune-telling department.
