Stop being a tease, Eileen. Give poor ol’ Johnny Ray what we wants.
Dexy’s Midnight Runners are making their first new album in 27 years. What?! Finally our prayers have been answered.
Hell, we’re just amaze-balls that anyone would voluntarily work with Kevin Rowland again after he would fire members DURING the video shoot for ‘Come on Eileen.’ Don’t believe us?
Seriously, watch it. When has Pop-Up Video every led you astray?
The band formed in 1978 but made it big in 1982, with their second album Too-Rye-Ay and the massive hit “Come On Eileen,” cementing their one-hit wonder status as well as their ‘Hey, who sings that song?‘ status and their ’What the hell are the words to this song?‘ status.
After a failed comeback in 1985 and a few and far between solo attempts by Rowland in 1988 and 1999, One Day I’m Going To Soar will be the fourth album under the Dexy’s name.
Dexy’s (they decided to drop the ‘Midnight Runners’ because clearly they were holding Dexy back) announced the new album on their Facebook page. Is there anything that isn’t announced via Facebook these days?
Oh, please please tell us there will be a follow-up song to “Come On Eileen.” We’re just dying to know that Johnny Ray and Eileen are happily married with 3 kids and their love didn’t implode with an out-of-wedlock baby and overdue child support.
Set your iPhone calendar to the opening lick (it’s still a ‘lick’ when it’s a fiddle, right?) of “Come on Eileen” for June 2 when One Day I’m Going to Soar will officially be dropping truth bombs on you. Because it will probably be another 27 years before this happens again.
Here is the 2 minute preview of the song “Now” which will open the album.
