With Aerosmith releasing a new album in “July or September” and kicking off a summer tour with Cheap Trick in June, guitarist Joe Perry has his hands full. Yet the Boston-bred axe-slinger squeezed in the time to work on two new tracks for an episode of CBS drama CSI that will air tonight (May 2) at 10 p.m. EST.

The new songs are both instrumental, and one of them is Perry’s collaboration with his son, who is a DJ. The songs will appear in the first half of the episode, titled “Dune and Gloom,” “in which off-road trucks are engaged in competition when a bomb goes off mid-race,” according to a release.

“It was really exciting that CSI gave me this opportunity to contribute to the show,” Perry said. “The first piece is pure adrenaline rock’n’roll. The second gave me a chance to work for my DJ son Roman, who contributed some of his electronic dance music.”

As for Aerosmith’s new album, Perry took to his Twitter – where’s he’s quite active – to give an update:

Could actually be mixing new Aero CD in wk or so! First studio record in 10!!!! yrs!! Heard rumor even our label likes it! Now I’m worried
