AC/DC fans will have to wait a little while before they’ll be hearing any new tracks from the legendary Australian rockers.

Although fans hoping to hear new material were encouraged by comments made by lead singer Brian Johnson in January, founding member and guitarist Malcolm Young said a new album is not in the band’s immediate future.

“You know what Brian’s like,” Young told Classic Rock Magazine. “He just says things and then walks away. It’ll be a little while – a year or two anyway.”

“I’ve been doing some jamming on some song ideas but I do that all the time, as do the rest of the band,” Young said. “We are still working. But we had a long rest between Stiff Upper Lip and Black Ice, so I think we need a couple of years to recuperate and work on it a bit more.”

Young’s comments contradict Johnson’s hinting at the possibility of a new album as early as late 2012. Johnson also mentioned one of the band members recovering from an undisclosed illness as a reason for the band’s hesitation to return to the studio. Still, he said he looks forward to the future collaborations.

“[pullquote quote="It's a wonderful thing when we get in a room. Whenever the boys get back together, I get all excited." credit="Brian Johnson"] The boys, after a while, pick the guitars up, Phil [Rudd] will make his way to the drums, Cliff [Williams] will pull his bass out and then all of a sudden this noise comes out and I sit there with just this big old grin on my face” Johnson said.

While the band started its rise with a strong studio presence, they have been relatively quiet as of late, releasing only two albums (2000′s Stiff Upper Lip and 2008′s Black Ice>) in the last 12 years. That is a significant change from the band’s beginnings when they released seven albums in as many years from 1976-1983.
