Def Leppard celebrate their 25th anniversary this year, and the band has a lot going on to mark the occasion, including re-recorded versions of two of their classics, a tour with Poison, and a high-profile gig tonight.

They’ve re-recorded “Pour Some Sugar On Me” and “Rock Of Ages” and released them on iTunes. Other than a live album, Def Leppard have refrained from releasing most of their catalog to the online retailer. The new recordings were partially to take advantage of the attention they are getting via the upcoming film, Rock Of Ages.

The film, based on the Broadway play of the same name, will feature Def Leppard’s song “Rock Of Ages.” Oddly enough, Def Leppard didn’t grant permission for the stage production to use it.

Yesterday at an intimate concert and Q&A session at West Hollywood’s House Of Blues, singer Joe Elliott explained the snub. “About eight years ago, it was brought to our attention that they wanted to use it. We’d been asked before to get involved in projects like this, we always said ‘no’ and it was always the right call. This time we said ‘no’ and [the show] took off. So we reevaluated our opinion. When they said, ‘We’re gonna make a movie, it’s called Rock of Ages, please let us use it. By the way, Tom Cruise is in it.’ We said, ‘Oh, go on then!’”

Tonight, Def Leppard, along with Poison, will perform at the premiere for the film in Hollywood. The two groups will also co-headline the “Rock Of Ages” tour this summer, which will also feature Lita Ford.
