It has been a great year for Van Halen fans with the release of a new album, and a successful tour.

While the band recently dropped the bombshell that they would be “postponing” the 2nd leg of the tour, some new positive rumors seems to be picking up steam.

In a recent interview with USA Today, Eddie Van Halen and his son, VH bass player Wolfgang briefly talked about the future of the band, and Eddie threw out a little gem stating, “In November, we’ll hit Japan, and in the new year, we’ll possibly do something special, but I can’t talk about it”.

Could that news mean that Van Halen could be in New Orleans in February to perform at the Super Bowl?

While a rumor is just a rumor, VH1′s That Metal Show co-host Jim Florentine added some fuel to the fire with this tweet:

Florentine is most likely just speculating. But there are few more “special” events that Van Halen could be referring to than the Super Bowl, which has booked a number of classic rock legends in recent years, including Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.
