Serious Metallica fans know that being one of the world’s greatest guitarists isn’t the only thing Kirk Hammett does with his nights. He’s also a lifelong collector of horror memorabilia, a passion he plans to share with fans through a book, an exhibit and a line of toys.
The book, which was announced today, will be a 228-page hardback, coffee table-style book called Too Much Horror Business – The Kirk Hammett Collection. The book will be published this October by Abrams Image.
It will feature 300 full color images from Kirk’s private collection, exclusive set photography by Mark Leialoha and Joe Gibbs, three conversations with writer Steffan Chirazi covering the importance of collecting in Hammett’s life plus written captions by Kirk for many of the items displayed in the book.
“This is my gift to all the other horror nerds out there who are just like me,” Hammett said in a press release. “It’s been made with great love for all the many characters and movies which guided me through childhood, into adulthood and which still keep me on track today.”
This coming weekend, at the Metallica-founded Orion Music + More Festival in Atlantic City, Hammett will host a preview of the book called Kirk’s Crypt. Come October 1st, a limited edition line of collectible toys will become available through his own Kirk Von Hammett Toys.
“I’ve spent my life collecting toys, so what could be more fun than making a series of toys which indulge my childhood fantasies AND which people can collect,” he said. “It’s more about fulfilling a huge ambition than anything else, and I hope I get the first one!”
