Okay Kareem, we get it. You’re po-ed, but why the drama queen antics?
Do they give Jack FM chocolate covered bacon when we want it? No.
Well Kareem Abdul-Jabbar wanted a statue at the Staples Center so he is getting it. Those enablers.
According to CBS Sports, this will be the sixth statue outside the arena, and will arrive sometime during the 2012-2013 season. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the one time Lakers Hall Of Fame Center, displayed public animosity towards his lack of a statue via twitter:
“Rumor has it that I will be getting a statue. A caveat for all my fans- don’t hold your breath. Lakers don’t care about me.”
Abdul-Jabbar’s remarks started last year after Lakers unveiled a statue of Jerry West, which now joins Magic Johnson, Chick Hearn, Oscar De La Hoya, and Wayne Gretzky as the only statues outside the arena.
A statement was also released on his behalf stating: “I am highly offended by the total lack of acknowledgement of my contribution to Laker success. I guess being the lynchpin for five world championships is not considered significant enough in terms of being part of Laker history.”
The man has a point, despite being a basketball diva. Cement sculptors, go ahead back to work in the blistering hot downtown sun! We wouldn’t screw it up if we were you!
