As Foo Fighters closed down The Reading Festival, the mother of all European multi-day music festivals, frontman Dave Grohl announced it would be their “last show for a long time.” Although rumors quickly spread from the band breaking up to going on permanent hiatus, it was just that; rumors. The Foo Fighters still have dates listed on their website’s tour page and no sign of cancellations. Fans holding onto tickets for the remaining shows can breathe a sigh of relief.
The band is merely nearing the end of a long promotional cycle for Wasting Light, a tour that began in early 2011.
During the mammoth 27-song Reading Festival set, Grohl dedicated “These Days” to his former Nirvana bandmates Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic, saying “I’d like to dedicate this song to a couple of people who couldn’t be here tonight.” In a rare moment of reflection, he announced “This one’s for Krist and this one’s for Kurt.”
Rumors floated around that the former Nirvana drummer would acknowledge the 20th anniversary of Nirvana playing Reading the festival. Although those rumors didn’t come to fruition, Grohl did rally the crowd into singing happy birthday to his mother, as they had done 20 years prior.
The Foo Fighters two-and-a-half hour set was capped by a crowd-pleasing rendition of “Everlong,” punctuated by a fireworks display.
