Art Garfunkel: Not Missing, But “Recovering”
Over the weekend, rumors began to circulate that Art Garfunkel was missing, after he missed two concerts in Sweden. Garfunkel’s publicist tells CBS Local that “Due to an unforeseen vocal issue, Art Garfunkel was forced to cancel two shows in Sweden over the weekend. He’s currently back in New York, recovering.”
According to Sweden’s The Local, Garfunkel was part of a tour called “Night Of The Proms” alongside American pop singer Anastacia and other artists. But shortly before he was due on stage on Friday the veteran crooner disappeared. He had been expressing concerns over his voice earlier in the week.
Booking agent Julius Malmström confirmed that ticker-holders would be entitled to a partial refund.
Garfunkel has struggled with vocal problems in recent years, causing Simon & Garfunkel to indefinitely postpone a 2009 tour. However, Garfunkel has recently recorded some new solo material, including the ballad “Lena,” for a new career-spanning collection called The Singer, which was released in August. He postponed a number of solo U.S. tour dates last month, but is scheduled to start a new string of solo concert Friday (October 5) at the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown, New Jersey. No cancellations of the upcoming dates have been announced.
