The smell of freshly-watered green grass, orange slices, and Hawaiian punch…ohhh, and some lame-o Dad screaming violently at the ref? For all you soccer parents out there, we’re sure you’ve been part of a similar scene.
But recently, in Cathedral City, the usually harmless threats of an irate parent went too far when a man allegedly pushed a 9-year-old child and kicked the referee.
A 38-year-old man named Rafael Delfin was arrested this Saturday reports CBSLA.com. A statement explains that Delfin “ran onto the soccer field, pushed a nine-year-old player to the ground and kicked the referee in the leg because he disagreed with a call he made.” And a Riverside County sheriff’s Deputy named Steven Favero told KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO that now Delfin is in jail “on suspicion of committing battery on a child and battery on a referee.”
The child went to the hospital with luckily nothing but non life-threatening injuries. Hopefully, the child will be able to get over the incident by the time puberty sets in and the opposite sex starts distracting him or her.
On the other hand, Delfin wins the Moron of a Lifetime Award given out to a select few who really set the bar for general awfulness. It’s like the Nobel Peace Prize but for losers who push defenseless children.
