Jimmy Page: “My Greatest Achievement…”
Jimmy Page regularly tops guitar player polls in magazines, websites and TV countdowns, and most music fans would say deservedly so. But in the book Light And Shade: Conversations With Jimmy Page, he says that his biggest contribution isn’t necessarily as a guitarist.
“Many people think of me as just a riff guitarist, but I think of myself in broader terms. As a musician I think my greatest achievement has been to create unexpected melodies and harmonies within a rock and roll framework. And as a producer I would like to be remembered as someone who was able to sustain a band of unquestionable individual talent, and push it to the forefront during its working career. I think I really captured the best of our output, growth, change and maturity on tape—the multi-faceted gem that is Led Zeppelin.”
Page was the producer on all of Led Zeppelin’s albums.
Light And Shade: Conversations With Jimmy Page, was compiled by Guitar World Editorial Director Brad Tolinski, from several interviews he’d done with Page over the years. The book will be available October 23.
That’s not the only thing Led Zeppelin fans have to be excited about: there’s also the Celebration Day concert film and album. The film hits theaters in a limited run on October 17, check the band’s website, or local listings, for theaters and times. The film/live album will be released on a number of formats, from BluRay to LP, on November 19.
