Stevie Nicks Apologizes For Violent Nicki Minaj Comments
Nicks vs. Nicki no more? Stevie Nicks has issued a statement apologizing for her comments about rapper/American Idol judge Nicki Minaj, whom she previously said she “would have killed” if she were in fellow Idol judge Mariah Carey’s shoes.
Nicks’ statement reads as follows (via The Hollywood Reporter): “I want to apologize for my remarks about Nicki Minaj’s behavior toward Mariah Carey, which I said during a long and exhausting day of interviews. It was very out of character for me and I deeply regret what I said. I feel very protective toward Mariah Carey who has gone through many difficulties in her life and I spoke without thinking. I think all artists should be respectful toward one another and that includes me. I am truly sorry.”
As previously reported, Nicks was asked about Minaj’s recent well-documented clash with Carey in an interview with The Daily, spurred in part by her role as a mentor on Idol earlier this year. “How dare this little girl! … If I had been Mariah I would have walked over to Nicki and strangled her to death right there,” Nicks said of the feud.
She continued: “I would have killed her in front of all those people and had to go to jail for it.”
Nicki Minaj’s camp has not responded to Nicks’ comments. Her fans, however, have not done the same, attacking Nicks on Twitter.
