After 35 years of playing together, INXS is calling it quits.

At the band’s final show of their joint tour on November 11 with Matchbox Twenty in Perth, Australia, INXS officially announced they were saying goodbye to the road forever.

“We understand that this must come as a blow to everybody, but all things must come to an end,” the band said in a statement. “We have been performing for 35 years, it’s time to step away from the touring arena.”

They continued by thanking friends and family who have been there since the beginning. The band also assured fans that the band wasn’t completely over.

“Our music will of course live on and we will always be a part of that.”

After losing their lead singer Michael Hutchence in 1997, the remaining members questioned whether they should go on, but the band’s manager, Chris Murphy said there really was no choice but to continue.

“To lose Michael so young was a tragedy for all of us,” he said. “But with this band, their legacy, their music was just so damn good it was always destined to live beyond all of us.”

The band decided to end their career in the same Australian city where they started, playing their signature closing song, “Don’t Change,” with a little help from Matchbox frontman Rob Thomas.

“INXS touring days could never last forever,” bandmember Jon Fariss said. “We wanted it to end on a high and it has.”

The band is currently celebrating the 25th anniversary of their album, KICK with the release of three remastered editions of the 1987 album.
