The Los Angeles Galaxy will have one less star next season. International superstar David Beckham will be leaving after the teams’ MLS Cup game December 1st.
Okay, we should probably give you some background. Beckham plays soccer (the “S” in MLS), otherwise known as futball to the rest of the world. Soccer, that funny little game where players kick the ball around a field and aren’t allowed to use their hands as they try to score goals. It is, by far, the most popular game in the world.
Really, rest of the world? Soccer? Or futball, or whatever you call it? Let us tell you what real football is. It’s played every Sunday on the gridiron with 11 guys on offense and 11 guys on defense as they battle yard by yard to score touchdowns. Every possession is a war! This is a game where players have been know to play through the most heinous of injuries, including, but not limited to, broken bones! And the quarterback throws the ball! With his hands!
Sorry, what were we talking about? David Beckham, right.
Beckham played for Manchester United before signing for 6 seasons with the LA Galaxy. Besides being one of the most popular athletes in the world, he is also married to Victoria Beckham, AKA “Posh Spice” of the Spice Girls.
When asked why he was leaving by CNN news, who reported the story, Beckham replied that he “wanted to experience one last challenge before the end of my playing career.”
He will be missed.
