Can USC Salvage Their Season? They Have One Chance Left…
Okay, so USC blew it last weekend against archrival UCLA. In fact, USC’s entire year has been pretty disappointing. They were ranked #1 in the preseason with talks of a BCS Championship and a Heisman Trophy for returning star quarterback Matt Barkley. Fast forward 11 weeks: USC goes 7-4, loses to crosstown rival UCLA, and Matt Barkley is out with a shoulder injury.
It’s gotten so bad that USC might actually end the season unranked. To put that in perspective, the last time a preseason # 1 ranked team ended the season unranked was Mississippi in 1964.
There is one game left, and that’s against USC’s other archrival, Notre Dame. And that’s not all. This is a #1-ranked-undefeated-they’re-so-close-they-can-taste-a-championship Notre Dame.
Which means USC is primed to play the spoiler. Despite everything, they can still salvage this season by ruining Notre Dame’s bid for a championship. And who doesn’t want to see that happen?
And just to add more drama to the matchup, freshman backup quarterback Max Wittek, who will be filling in for the injured Matt Barkley, has boldly declared that USC will in fact defeat the undefeated.
“I’m gonna go out there, I’m gonna play within myself, within the system, and we’re gonna win this ballgame,” Wittek proclaimed.
We’re hoping Wittek is a man of his word. The game is set for 5:00 pm this Saturday at the Coliseum. Go get ‘em Trojans! FIGHT ON!!!
