Dodgers Can Score A Home Run With Potential 6 Billion Dollar TV Deal
Are you ready for the most obvious statement of the year? LA sports is a big business. Duh. With the Lakers, Clippers, Dodgers, Angels, USC and UCLA, and the Kings, we’re talking about big time cash cows for all parties involved, not least of which are the cable networks.
The LA Times is reporting that the Dodgers are in negotiations to renew their contract with Fox Sports to the tune of 6 billion—that’s $6,000,000,000 in case it hasn’t sunk in—dollars, making it one of the largest sports TV deals ever. The contract would last for 25 years, averaging out to about $250 million a year.
Here’s how that compares with the other TV deals in town:
Lakers and Time Warner Cable: 3 billion dollars over 20 years
Angels and Fox Sports West: 2.5 billion dollars over 17 years
King and Fox Sports West: 250 million dollars over 12 years
Clippers and Prime Ticket: Details unknown, but greater than 87.5 million over 7 years
