As if the squeaky clean city of Santa Monica wasn’t gentrified and yuppie enough, the Santa Monica City Council will reportedly be giving a final go-for-it at a city council meeting tonight saying that Village Trailer Park, the only trailer park remaining in what used to be a swinging beach city, will be replaced with high-end, probably high-money apartments and condos. There will also be retail shops and office spaces in the mixed-use complex.

The trailer park is in a prime Santa Monica area off of Colorado near the major music labels and companies like MTV. The condos and apartments will increase the amount of homes from 49 trailer park homes to about 377 homes.

To compensate, developer Marc Luzzato has offered to provide homes for those in the trailer parks. 16 affordable housing homes are located at the site reports CBSLA.com.

Remember back in the day when you could just build a shack on the beach and live in it? Take us back to those days. In our 1950s fantasy world, if we had those trailers, we’d just move them to near the Boardwalk and sell sausages to bikini-clad tourists.
