Hate the new map technology on your updated iPhone? You’re not the only one. Hell, Apple even apologized for the mapping system saying that “they are extremely sorry for the frustration this has caused our customers and we are doing everything we can to make Maps better.”
And after an unwarranted amount of hate-filled criticism from journalists and users alike (hey, it’s not THAT bad once you get the hang of it, except for that one time we got lost in the ghetto), sources at Bloomberg say that Apple has fired software mapping team manager Richard Williamson says the SFist.
Bloomberg also stated that “[i]n removing Williamson, Cue wants to install a new leadership team for the group” and that a “replacement for Williamson wasn’t immediately known.” Before the iO6 update, Apple used Google Maps. Side-by-side comparisons of the two technologies show that Google Maps is far superior in specificity–and includes green travel solutions like public transportation and bike routes.
In short, you cannot mess with the modern masters of map making, but hopefully Google will get their map app approved by Apple so we don’t get lost in the ghetto again. And you should probably never ask anyone named Richard Williamson for directions. Just sayin’.
