Los Angeles Deemed 9th Smartest City In North America
FastCoexist, who apparently think themselves experts on what makes a city smart/awesome/ the best place ever might have a rival in the London hipster dude from Vice who basically said Los Angeles is the most horrible place is in the world.
That’s because Fast Company actually included our fair city on their Top Ten list of Smartest Cities in North America. That’s pretty good considering that includes Canada, and you know, all the “beautiful” but not quite “brainiac” types that reside in sunny Southern California.
Hey, at least we have something going for us.
Here’s what they said about Los Angeles–which came in at number 9:
9. Los Angeles. This entry may come as somewhat of a surprise. Los Angeles is famous for its sprawl and traffic jams, which are reflected in a low rate of transit use (11.6%), the lowest by far of any of the cities in this ranking. However, L.A. is starting to break out of the box with increased density, growing its network of pedestrian and cycling paths and increased use of renewable energy. L.A. also is starting to create a thriving technology entrepreneurial ecosystem and is rated fourth globally in the inventive cities ranking.
According to FastCoexist, the full list of cities in the Top 10 are:
2. San Francisco
5. New York City
6. Washington, D.C.
9. Los Angeles
Do you agree? Do you think Los Angeles should have been placed higher on the list–or not at all?
