Remember back in the halcyon days of your youth when finding a broken parking meter meant you got to park for free? Those were the days. But now greedy old Los Angeles and their evil City Council has voted to uphold a ban on parking at broken meters reports Los Angeles Times. What does that mean for you? Don’t park at them.
You will have to pay a hefty fine unless your city overrides the new law. However, state law says that cities must inform drivers if they will issue a citation for a broken meter.
Although the ban has been implemented for the last two years, transportation officials finally made it official. Electronic meters have helped the city cut down on meter vandalism and repairs when according to transportation department official Dan Mitchell about 10% of parking meters were broken before 2010.
