“Football majors” may now have another option other than pretending to be studying sociology while they wait for the draft. Thanks to Newberry College in South Carolina, they can now major in social media, the first of its kind.

In other words, tweeting, facebooking (yes, it is now a verb), instagramming (that too is a verb), and all the other online crap you’re doing can now be considered a legitimate subject of academia. McKayla Maroney is not impressed. Neither are your parents.

Newberry’s Associate Professor Tania Sosiak is quoted on Yahoo.com as saying, “It’s a blended major of graphic design, communications, business and marketing, psychology, and statistics.”

Right. Unconfirmed reports also claim this is her Facebook status.

So we ask here at JACK FM ask, what kind of J-O-B can you get with a degree in social media? (Cue the crickets)

In an unrelated report, JACK FM.com is said to be hiring more staff writers in the near future.
