There’s Oil In Them There Fields–1,300 Light Years Away

Oil, oil everywhere, but not a drop for our cars to drink. Why? Because it’s totally in another galaxy or, really, 1,300 light years away. German scientists have discovered approximately “155,238,095,238,095,250,000 barrels” says Huffington Post.

Or in layman’s terms, a hell of a lot.

The Max Planck Institute used a telescope and found a giant hydrocarbon cloud in the “Horsehead Nebula galaxy in the Orion constellation,” which IRAM astronomer Viviana Guzman says “contains 200 times more hydrocarbons than the total amount of water on Earth!”

The oil, theoretically the precursor to organic compounds that make us idiot humans, might have been caused by a dead star. So when Moby sings “we are all made of stars,” he might have been onto something instead of having a kind-of-one-hit-wonder early aughts electro masterpiece.
