Attack of the Killer Pussy! It’s either a ’50s horror flick or the current state of America. Who are we kidding? It’s probably both because according to the Nature Communications journal, your cute little purrbot is actually a vicious killer possibly exterminating between 1.4 and 3.7 billion birds each year and 6.9 to 20.7 billion mammals.
People hate pigeons and rats, but apparently the real plight on ecology are cats–about 84 million owned by households and 40-80 million feral freewheelers–who have allegedly caused the extinction of 33 animals and are still chomping away.
In farming times, cats were awesome for this, but since we basically live on the internet now and farm on Facebook, having a bloodthirsty best friend isn’t exactly “modern,” but they sure do a good job of keeping our feet warm at night and loving us through our bouts of spontaneous weeping.
While most killing is done by the feral hunters, who in all fairness just need to eat, brother, the truth of the matter is that there’d by more birds and small mammals if there were less cats. LESS CATS?!? YEAH RIGHT. OVER JACK FM’s dead body!
Probably killed by a cat, but still.
