Beer. The cause and solution to all of life’s problems. Or is it? Science has brought beer lovers some satisfying facts that just seem to keep on coming.
With evolution comes scientific findings that benefit the lives of Earth’s inhabitants, including Jack FM. With Jack FM comes beer. With beer comes beneficial health effects on diabetes, certain forms of cancer, inflammation, and potential weight loss. Humulus lupulus, also called “hops” was once known as the bitter flavoring agent in the beer brewing process. The bitter tasting chemical compound, or “humulones” found in the resin of hops are configured. This configuration allows scientists to determine which molecule will result in bitter taste.
Once upon a science lab, UW research associate professor of chemistry, Werner Kaminsky recovered acids from the brewing process and purified them. As reported in Seattle Pi, the humulones formed in the brewing process were then converted into salt crystals and sent for determination of the exact configuration of the molecules during the process of X-ray crystallography.
The beneficial discoveries made about moderate beer consumption will result in new pharmaceuticals thanks to Bill Nye types of guys everywhere.
